2024 - 2025 Season Finale

Shostakovich Fifth

Shostakovich wrote his brazen and bold Fifth Symphony in 1938 in a desperate attempt to secure some sense of safety in an unsafe world. A composer who was held hostage both artistically and literally, he created music that would fulfill the Soviet regime’s populist and “heroic” requirements and provide his political salvation. North State Symphony Principal Violist Leah Carl is featured in Forsyth’s hidden gem of a viola concerto with powerful soaring melodies that display the enormous versatility of the instrument.

Youth Events

Each year, we bring the excitement of live symphonic music directly to students through engaging youth concerts and school performances. These interactive experiences introduce young audiences to classical music, often featuring lively narration and opportunities for students to ask questions and connect with musicians

Side by Side

In our inspiring Side-by-Side Concerts, talented youth ensemble members perform alongside North State Symphony musicians in a collaborative, professional setting. These concerts provide young musicians with invaluable experience playing in a full symphony orchestra, deepening their understanding of ensemble dynamics and fostering mentorship opportunities with seasoned professionals.

On Location

Our musicians take the heart of the symphony beyond the concert hall, sharing the power of live music with local schools and retirement homes. These intimate performances create unforgettable experiences, fostering a deeper connection to the arts and bringing joy, inspiration, and a sense of community to all.

Conduct Us

At local farmers markets and community festivals, Conduct Us invites community members of all ages to step into the role of conductor. With baton in hand, participants have the opportunity to lead the musicians and experience the thrill of shaping a live performance. This fun, interactive event brings music into the heart of the community, allowing people to connect with the symphony in a whole new way.
