April Concert

Pop into Spring with the North State Symphony and John Williams!

Join the North State Symphony in a joyful outburst to Spring with a special
performance: “NSS POPS! The Best of John Williams”. Concerts take place on April 6th and 7th in Oroville, Red Bluff, and Chico.

The music of John Williams has transported us beyond our imagination. It has taken us on heart-pounding adventures to new worlds. Be there as the North State Symphony performs all of your John Williams favorites: Superman, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter, Catch Me If You Can, Jurassic Park, and much more.

“Most of us don’t think “symphony orchestra” when we hear the amazing soundtracks behind blockbusters like Jurassic Park and Harry Potter, but the music is what creates a huge part of the excitement, and an orchestra is what creates that music” says Scott Seaton, North State Symphony Music Director and Conductor. “John Williams has composed some of the most amazing orchestral music out there. It’s not Mozart, but orchestras love performing this fun, challenging and powerful sound, and hearing it live will blow you away!”

Performances are Friday, April 6th at 7:30pm at the Oroville State Theatre (tickets at, April 7th at 2pm at the Red Bluff State Theatre (tickets at, and April 7th at 7:30pm at Laxson Auditorium in Chico (tickets at the University Box Office or at

Winter Chamber Music

On January 27th and 28th, North State Symphony presents its smallest and most intimate performances of the season with a Winter Chamber Concert featuring a range of ensembles and compositions.

A traditional piano trio - Beethoven’s Op. 1 #1 - features guest artists Terrie Baune, violin, Carol Jacobsen, cello, and John Chernoff, piano.  Maestro Scott Seaton then joins Ms. Baune and Mr. Chernoff in a saxophone/violin/piano trio performance of Cantilene et Danse by Algerian-born composer Marc Eychenne.  Stravinsky’s neo-classical Dumbarton Oaks follows, a piece written for chamber orchestra and heavily inspired by Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos.  Finally, Scott Seaton plays in and conducts a septet in Villa Lobos’ exotic and lively Choros No. 7.

Performances are Saturday, January 27th at 7:30pm at Paul and Yasuko Zingg Recital Hall, New Arts & Humanities Building, CSU Chico (tickets at the University Box Office or at; and Sunday, January 28th at 2:00pm at Old City Hall in Redding, CA (tickets at the Cascade Theatre Box Office or
